The Santo Niņo de Cebu Association, International is one of the organizations of St. Dominic's Church in San Francisco, founded by Sally Famarin in 1968. It's primary objective (See Preamble) is to continue the tradition and devotion of the Santo Niņo (Holy Infant). The tradition started after the discovery of the Image of the Santo Niņo back in 15th century in the village of Cebu, Philippines during the Spanish exploration and colonization of the islands.
Portuguese navigator, Fedinand Magellan lead the expedition to search for the spice island and stumbled on the island of Cebu. He made the island the base of his Conquest, Exploration and
Christianization.
The image of the Santo Niņo was discovered in 1565 by a Spanish soldier under the wreckage of the burning hut, and is believed to be the same Image given by Magellan to the Queen of Cebu as a gift during her conversion to Catholicism.
