Santo Nino de Cebu Fiesta -
Proclamation
City & County of San Francisco
WHEREAS,
the Fiesta of the Santo Nino de Cebu imparts to every Filipino renewed
sense of values of the traditional Filipino traits of piety, friendship
and hospitality, and devotion to the Santo Nino is a means of inspiring
the highest values in upholding the sacred heritage of Philippine culture;
and
WHEREAS, This yearly event is a festive, significant, celebrated and hallowed tradition, which is deeply woven into the very fabric of the history of Cebu; and
WHEREAS, This fiesta provides a unique and pleasurable opportunity for all San Franciscans to learn about and better appreciate the outstanding contributions made to the City and County of San Francisco by our citizens of Filipino descent; and
WHEREAS, During the First decade of its existence the Filipino Fiesta of the Santo Nino de Cebu, through the tireless efforts of its Founder, President Emeritus and World Emissary, Commissioner Sally B. Famarin, has brought national distinction to Filipino-Americans and has established an example for others to emulate; and
WHEREAS, The Cebu Association of California, Inc., is dedicated to serve Santo Nino for peace and the dignity of man, and fosters the Spirit of respect and understanding which exists between the peoples of the Philippine Islands and the United States; and
WHEREAS, The Association will again observe the Fiesta of the Santo Nino de Cebu in San Francisco next year, and plans to do so every year thereafter;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, George Moscone, Mayor of the City and County of San Francisco, do hereby proclaim the period of January 12 through 20 1979, as the FIESTA OF THE SANTO NINO DE CEBU WEEK in San Francisco, and do urge all our citizens to participate with their Filipino-American friends and neighbors in observing the events of the Fiesta.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City and County of San Francisco to be affixed this twenty-nineteen hundred and seventy-eight.
