PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, The Fiesta of the Santo Nino de Cebu imparts to every Filipino
a renewed sense of the value of the traditional Filipino traits of piety,
friendship and hospitality, and devotion to the Santo Nino is a means
of inspiring the highest values in upholding the sacred heritage of
Philippine culture; and
WHEREAS, This fiesta provides a unique an pleasurable opportunity for
all San Franciscans to learn about and better appreciate the outstanding
contributions made to the City and County of San Francisco by our citizens
of Filipino descent; and
WHEREAS, The Cebu Association of California, Inc., AKA Santo Nino de
Cebu Association International is dedicated to serve Santo Nino for
peace and dignity of man, and fosters the spirit of respect and understanding
which exists between the people of the Philippine Island and the United
States; and
WHEREAS, Through the laudable and determined efforts of Commisioner
Sally B. Famarin with the officers and members of the Association in
carrying towards the forefront the festivities of Santo Nino de Cebu,
this has become a potent medium with which the Santo Nino may be appreciated
and loved throughout the world; now
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, DIANNE FEINTEIN, Mayor of the City
and County of San Francisco, do hereby proclaim the January 12 through
22, 1984 as the FIESTA OF THE SANTO NINO DE CEBU WEEK in San Francisco,
and do urge all citizens to participate with their Filipino -American
friends and neighbors in observing the events of the Fiesta.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I hereby hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal
of the City and County of San Francisco, to be affixed this first day
of January, nineteen hundred and eighty-four.
