Addressed to the Founder of the Santo Nino de Cebu - Sally Famarin

While my schedule does not permit me to join you for the Fiesta in honor of Santo Nino de Cebu, I do wish to thank you for your courtesy in extending this invitation and to assure you that I will be with you in prayer.

In 1521 the great explorer, Ferdinand Magellan, planted the cross in the city of Cebu. Since that time Christian faith has grown and flourished in the Philippine Islands and this faith has been brought by you to the United States. The religious fervor of the Filipino people and their rich cultural heritage is a source of blessing to the Archdiocese of San Francisco. Your devoted priests and religious give testimony to the efficacy of that cross planted long ago in the city of Cebu.

With gratitude for the many rich gifts the Filipino Community has brought to the Church in San Francisco and with prayers that the Christ Child will continue to bless you and your people as you strive to serve Him, I am

Devotedly yours in Christ,
John R. Quinn
Archbishop of San Francisco

Wishing you a very successful observance of the Fiesta of the Santo Nino de Cebu, I am

Yours sincerely in Christ,

"At this time when the bonds of family life in this country need to be strengthened in imitation of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, we deeply appreciate the work of your Association and your devotion to the Santo Nino as a means of inspiring the highest values of Catholic family life and the maintenance of the sacred traditions which you bring with you from your homeland. As our Filipino membership in the family of God in this area continue to grow, we hope that the Cebu Association will also continue to enjoy increased membership and blessings. I assure you of my prayers and you may continue to enjoy the support of God's providence."
