COMMENDATION
FIESTA OF THE SANTO NINO WEEK
WHEREAS, The Cebu Association of California, Inc. AKA Santo Nino de
Cebu Association has been celebrating the Filipino Fiesta of the Santo
Nino de Cebu week since 1968 which is the highest and greatest cultural
heritage of the Filipino people; and
WHEREAS, This celebration has fostered the spirit of respect and understanding
which exists between the Philippine islands and the United States. This
Fiesta provides a unique and pleasurable opportunity for all citizens
of Los Angeles to learn about and better appreciate the outstanding
contributions made to our City by our citizens of Filipino descent;
and
WHEREAS, Through the tireless efforts of Sally Famarin, The Cebu Association
has worked hard for the enthronization of the miraculous image of the
Santo Nino de Cebu and the building of the Santo Ni–o Shrine which is
now on the National Register of Cultural and Historical places, and
WHEREAS, During the week of January 8, 1983 the Southern California
Chapter of the Cebu Association will hold its Filipino Fiesta of the
Santo Nino de Cebu week in Los Angeles:
NOW, THEREFORE, I Tom Bradley, Mayor of the City of Los Angeles, do
hereby proclaim the week of January 8, 1983 as "Fiesta of the Santo
Nino de Cebu week" in Los Angeles, and urge the citizens of our "Fair
City of the Angels" to participate with their Filipino-American friends
and neighbors in observing the events of the Fiesta. January, 1983
